Experiencing a Taste of Asia at Stackt Market

With summer right around the corner, what better way to kick things off than with a festival involving food, drinks, and performances? The Backyard series has once again returned at Stackt Market, and in celebration of Asian Heritage Month, the series started off with the Asian Night Market.

The one-night event occurred on May 17, with doors opening at 4 p.m. and lasting until 10 p.m. With more than 50 vendors on display, event goers had the opportunity to buy handmade crafts and experience a taste of Asian snacks, food, and drinks. Additionally, cultural performances and music were played throughout the night.

Homebody Collective, a home decor and plant business, was one of the local businesses with a stall.  Although the owner, Cass, has been running her business for 8 years, it was her first time as a vendor at the Asian Night market.  Cass handmakes concrete miniature planters with Ontario-grown succulents. Some of the planters are even Pokémon-themed.

HANSTUDIO, an online jewelry store, had their pop-up store at the one-night event. Customers were able to buy uniquely crafted earrings, bracelets, and rings, all at an affordable price.

Anyone who attended the night market could find many local food vendors and get a taste of Asian food and snacks. There were stalls serving up Filipino and Japanese food. Toronto Yatai was one of the standout vendors selling Japanese street and fusion food, from takoyaki, yakisoba, to Japanese-inspired hot dogs and sausages. Toronto Yatai can only be found as a pop-up store.
